On Feb.25 2017, the Porcupine Judo Club traveled to Sudbury to compete in the Northern Ontario Open Judo Tournament at Laurentian University. 12 Clubs from Ontario and Quebec participated and the skill level , even in the youngest age groups was high. Only 1 match in the tournament went to golden score (tie breaker overtime) and few matches went the distance before a match ending score (ippon) was achieved. 9 fighters from the Porcupine Judo Club competed and they returned with 10 medals. Matthieu Carriere competed in 2 divisions and placed silver in both. For some of our fighters it was their first tournament and everyone had a lot of fun testing out their skills as well as meeting judoka from other clubs.
