Oh boy.

The Director's Cut of Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 1 released on HBO Max's launch on May 27th, 2020. Season 2 Part 1 (Episodes 1-13) began releasing on September 15th, 2020. I believe it started with the first two episodes, maybe the third as well, definitely not the fourth. Season 2 Part 2 began releasing on March 5th, 2021. I do not remember when either of these ended and given the way the show was released on HBO Max I can not give a guess, sorry. Season 1 left HBO Max on May 27th, 2022. Season 2 left HBO Max on September 15th, 2022.

Let's start with the Season 1 Director's Cut, here are the ratings.

...until March 2021 when they were all replaced with a TV-14. Other shows like To Your Eternity and Tokyo Revengers have done this but at least in To Your Eternity's case they went back a few weeks later.

Season 2 is a whoooole other story. Here are the first 13 episodes, the first ratings they had on the platform.

1 - "Each One's Promise" - TV-MA-V

2 - "The Next Location" - TV-MA-V

13 - "The Sounds That Make You Want to Cry" - TV-MA-V

In November 2020, episodes 1-3 were rerated TV-14. Which isn't much better, but okay. In March 2021, this began to apply to episodes 5-13 as well. At the time that I had checked, episodes 14-16 were on the platform and they were still TV-MA-V. In fact, as of this writing, episodes 14-25 are all rated TV-MA-V.

Actually, in May 2021, I noticed that the English versions of episodes 14-17 were TV-MA-V while the Japanese versions were TV-MA. This was before episode pages had the rating information and you had to start the episode to see the rating in the player (adding the Rating Information section makes keeping track so much faster) but I checked to see if it still does that and it does! No other episodes of Re:ZERO do that, although Tokyo Revengers did that for the whole show once the Japanese version was added.

Full disclosure, at the time of this writing I have not actually seen episodes 14-25 of Re:ZERO Season 2 but I have seen episodes 1-13 and these all feel like placeholder ratings, the TV-14s and the TV-MA-Vs.

Is this a weird way to present these ratings? Well, this is a weird way to rate this show, so it fits.
