Milk

Tears mingle with wax,

From exhausted candles,

To light the sorrow,

Of an entire nation.

Here and now,

This must stop,

This hate of difference,

Lest it consume us.

Backstory: On November 27, 1978 ex San Francisco Supervisor Dan White used a basement window in city hall to enter with a gun and shot Supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor Moscone dead in the Mayor's office. This poem was a reaction to the march and was originally titled Milk, republished STOP, and then changed back to the original title.
