Coin Holder Terminology

Some terms you will see in the Coin Holder page...

Open Slot - a narrow groove running the entire length/width of the holder, distinguishable because it appears to "run off" the ends of the holder. Most coin holders are slotted.

Closed Slot - A narrow groove running the length/width of the holder, but NOT to the ends. Milled with a slot cutting bit.

Radiused Slot - A slot cut by a slot cutting bit that is sized to hold only one coin.

Half recess - An depression drilled into the holder at an angle less than perpendicular to the drilled surface. Allows the coin to "lie" partially within the holder, but standing "proud" for almost half its height.

Recess - A depression drilled into the holder at an angle less than or equal to the perpendicular to the drilled surface. The coin lies completly within the depression. Most recesses drilled at less than the perpendicular allow a coin to be held in a vertical holder. Perpendicular recesses are usually drilled into sloped front or wedge shaped holders.
