1. Email your interested neighbors and talk about this with them. Ask them to sign the on-line petition at www.ipetitions.com/petition/plymouthquietzones . If they signed the paper petition and did not provide their email address, then contact the email address below.
2. Email the City Commission:
You elected them and pay the salary of the City Manager. Although there are many priorities, you can make your opinion known.
Thank them and gently/politely prod them to actually move forward…using a short email (clicking on the following addresses should open an email for you):
o the city manager psincock@ci.plymouth.mi.us
o the volunteer/elected mayor ddwyer@ci.plymouth.mi.us
o the volunteer/elected City Commissioners listed at www.ci.plymouth.mi.us/Index.aspx?NID=12
§ dbogenrieder@ci.plymouth.mi.us
§ ehingelberg@ci.plymouth.mi.us
3. Stay interested: Sustaining interest in this will be difficult. If your elected City Commission wanted to, they could just let the public interest fade and see what happens. To counter the possibility of that, please note that they meet the first and third Mondays at 7PM at the second floor of City Hall and anyone is invited. Perhaps add this to your calendar as a recurring reminder while this is on your mind. Perhaps attend and stand up at “citizen comment” time, which is always the first item on the agenda. Say something brief about your support of Quiet Zones (even just, “Please stop the train horns”), then feel free to leave. You can be done by 7:10PM. This helps them track interest. Consider signing up for the City’s automated “notify me” at www.ci.plymouth.mi.us to see what is on the upcoming agenda.
4. Email your other elected officials: Send a quick/polite email to our voting district’s legislators to ask for general support for increasing railroad crossing safety in the City of Plymouth.
o State Senator: Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation (Vice Chairman): senpcolbeck@senate.michigan.gov
o State Representative: Transportation Committee: kheise@house.mi.gov
o County Commissioner: Public Services/Roads Committee: sprice@waynecounty.com . Note Lilley/Mill is a Wayne County jurisdiction road with two railroad crossings.
o U.S. Representative: rep.kerry.b@mail.house.gov
o U.S. Senators: senator_levin@levin.senate.gov and senator@stabenow.senate.gov
