Step 6: Resubmission

You’ve now made your revisions, and you’re pleased with the new paper. It’s now time to upload it to Manuscript Central once again. Use the same account details that you noted in step 1, and make sure that you send the manuscript in as a revised piece. It causes confusion if you upload it as a new item, which can lead to additional delays.

Make sure that you include a letter to the editors with your submission. This should explain the main changes that you have made in response to the referee comments. You don't need to provide exhaustive detail, but you do need to give some indication of the major alterations you have undertaken.

The editors will read your letter and your paper and decide whether the revisions you have made are adequate. If they believe that you have done enough, they will send it out to referees again. If the changes you have made are not sufficient, you will be asked to do more work on the manuscript and resubmit a second time.

It takes about 20 minutes to reupload a manuscript.
