Piet Kommers is Emeritus Professor at the University of Twente. He was an early pioneer in AI programming and expert systems since the late 1970s. He became fascinated by the potential of adapting hypertext to the reader's actual state of mind. Knowledge representation through conceptual structures became his key expertise. Currently, the exploitation of AI based upon machine learning and data analytics for smart educational support is at the core of his interest.

1999 - 2008 EU projects on Media for Training and Education: 3D immersive experiences for spatial awareness in medical interventions. Chair of the NATO Advanced Workshop 'Cognitive Tools for Learning'.
Chair of the IADIS Conferences and Main Editor of the Journal 'Web-Based Communities'. UNESCO and Capital Normal University in Beijing awarded him the title of Honorary Professor.
His books exemplify that human learning is one of the most diverse processes on earth.
2023 His book 'Sources for a Better Education' introduces Deep Learning for becoming an even better teacher.
