Airport: 3 choices

Komatsu (KMQ): best choice

+ close to Kanazawa. A coach bus heading for Kanazawa station leaves outside of the terminal soon after the plane lands+ small airport => small waiting time / queues at airport- not easy to find convenient flight schedule to KMQ

Kansai (KIX): 2nd choice

+ many choices for airlines- need about 4 hours of train travel from airport to Kanazawa. It is easiest to book them at the desk at the train station at the airport.- could be crowded (plan to be at airport 2.5 hours in advance)

Narita (NRT): 3rd choice, but most common

+ big airport; many choices for airlines- need about 5 hours of train travel from airport to Kanazawa. It is easy to book a ticket (by counter or machine) from Narita airport to Tokyo station or Ueno station (close by Tokyo station). From either of those you should then book a shinkansen (bullet train) ticket directly to Kanazawa station.- big airport => long waiting time (plan to be at airport 3 hours in advance)

Bus

To get to campus (here is my office 226), you need to take a bus.Google will tell you which one.
Notes for boarding the bus:- ask your favorite AI tool for how to board a bus in Kanazawa, or do the following:- get in from the middle (NOT the front)- get out in front of the bus- Kanazawa university = 金沢大学 (last 2 characters: person + 7 with a funny hat)- Kanazawa station = 金沢駅 (the double `R' is very characteristic)- if you have a visa or Master card credit card, then check in by beaping your card for the scanner in the bus. Check out when leaving the bus with a similar scanner next to the bus driver- if not, then upon entering take a paper ticket (a small piece of paper with a largely printed number (1 -- 15) on it) from the machine in the bus. The matrix board in front of the bus will tell you, for your number, how much you should pay when leaving. This price increases the longer you stay on the bus. Upon leaving the bus, pay the amount in cash, suited (it is rounded up to 10 yen. It costs about 400 yen + a little). If you do not have enough change, there there is an exchange machine next to the bus driver.
