I am an Assistant Professor of Finance at the School of Economics and Management, University of Porto (FEP.UP), where I teach several undergraduate and graduate courses in finance (namely, Capital Budgeting, Real Options and Corporate Finance II). I'm an Associate Researcher at the Research Center in Economics and Finance (CEF-UP), and, since 2011, I serve as Director of the Master in Finance Programme.

I obtained the title of Agregado (Habil.) in Management from the School of Economics and Management, University of Porto (2018). I hold a PhD in Business Administration (field: Finance) from the School of Economics and Management, University of Minho (2006), and a MSc in Business Administration (specialization in Corporate Finance) also from the University of Minho (2000).


My research interests regard essentially the theory of Real Options and its links with various topics in corporate finance. Specific topics include: investment decisions under hidden competition; dynamics of corporate growth; non-competition covenants; real options with agency costs; public-private partnerships; investment incentives; real options perspective for M&A, among others.

I have published in the following academic journals: European Financial Management, Journal of Business Research, European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Economic Dynamics & Control, European Journal of Finance, International Review of Economics & Finance, Quantitative Finance, International Journal of Finance & Economics, Economic Modelling, Economics Letters, Mathematics and Financial Economics, among others. Before joining FEP in 2009, I was the CFO of Valente Marques Group (2005-2009), an Invited Assistant Lecturer at the University of Minho (2001-2005) and I assumed different management position before 2001 in several companies in Portugal.
