About Thomas Hoff, Our New District Executive

In his own words.....

As a Boy Scout of Troop 185 and Venture Scout in Venture Crew 185, North Branch, New Jersey, I have been incredibly involved in the inner workings, as well as its promotion and fundraising sectors, primarily centered around high adventure trips. As a scout, I have been to SeaBase twice, participated in the Cavalcade section of Philmont, camped and hiked on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii at Camp Pupukea, camped and hiked at the Eagle River campground outside of Juneau, Alaska, and visited both Ireland and England during the 100 year anniversary of scouting in Europe, staying at The South London Scout Centre and The Ireland International Scout Centre, Larch Hill, Dublin. All of these trips were paid for in full through one major fundraising activity, the operation of a cheesesteak and curly fry stand at the local 4-H Fair. During the event, which was organized every year by me, my father, and my brother, we were able to gross roughly thirty thousand dollars over three days, to be split evenly amongst those who worked using an hourly wage. Upon my advancement to Eagle Scout, I was still thoroughly involved in the fundraising event, by giving guidance to the new family who took over the responsibility of the event when I went off to College. As a Venture Scout, I acted as the President in the first year of Crew 185, and was the primary organizer of both the Cavalcade and Alaska high adventure trips. I believe that it was in these events that I was able to stay interested in the program, and follow it all the way through to the end.

As a student, I just recently graduated from Sewanee: The University of The South in Sewanee TN with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. While at Sewanee, I was also a member of the Sewanee Rugby Team for a period of time, as well as a member of the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta, holding positions primarily focused around alumni relations as well as recruitment. This will be my first job out of college, and the excitement that I will bring to serving all of the volunteers of the Pickett’s Mill District will accurately reflect that sentiment. I will now be able to “Do a good turn daily” by helping in any way I can those units that reside in the Pickett’s Mill District of Paulding County, as well as beyond.
