YIRUMA
이루마
Yiruma (b.1978, Seoul, Korea) is a South Korean pianist and composer. His albums are very popular in Asia, and he is gaining recognition in the United States and Europe. His most famous pieces are "River Flows in You", "Love Me" and "Kiss the Rain". He once held dual citizenship in the United Kingdom and South Korea, but gave up his British citizenship, and entered the Republic of Korea Navy to begin his compulsory military service.
Yiruma started piano at age 5. In 1988 he moved to England, and in December 1996 participated in the album The Musicians of Purcell. He graduated from Purcell Specialist Music School (London) in 1997, then from King's College London in 2000. Yiruma lived in Japan for 5 years to promote album sales before giving up his British citizenship in 2006.
