Wicked Soundtrack Songs

Defying Gravity is a song from the 2003 album Wicked, which contains most of the songs from the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Wicked, with music by composer Stephen Schwartz. The album was recorded by the original cast of the Broadway play. It received the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album, and was certified double platinum. Kerry Ellis, an original cast member, recorded rock versions of Defying Gravity and I'm Not That Girl (another song from Wicked) for her 2008 album Wicked in Rock.

Stephen Schwartz (born in 1948) is an American lyricist and composer for movies and musical theater. Schwartz has written such hit musicals as Godspell, Pippin, and Wicked. He has contributed lyrics for movies such as Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Prince of Egypt (music and lyrics), and Enchanted. Schwartz has won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Lyrics, three Grammy Awards, three Academy Awards, and has been nominated for six Tony Awards. He received the 2015 Isabelle Stevenson Award, a special Tony Award, for his commitment to serving artists and fostering new talent.
