We've Only Just Begun

Written by Roger Nichols with lyrics by Paul Williams, We've Only Just Begun (1970) is the signature song of The Carpenters, and is often used as a wedding song. In 2004, the song ranked at number-405 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest songs of all-time. The song was the The Carpenters' third single and it was included on their second album Close to You (1970), which ranked number-175 on Rolling Stones' 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all-time. In 1998, The Carpenters' recording of We've Only Just Begun was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for recordings of lasting quality or historical significance.

The Carpenters were an American vocal/instrumental duo, consisting of sister Karen (born in 1950) and brother Richard Carpenter (born in 1946). The Carpenters were the best selling American music act of the 1970s. During their fourteen-year career, they recorded eleven albums, five of which contained top-ten singles; thirty-one singles; and five television specials. Nominated numerous times for Grammy Awards, The Carpenters won three of them: Best New Artist (1970); Best Contemporary Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group, or Chorus (1970); and Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group (1971). Karen died in 1983 from complications of the eating-disorder anorexia nervosa.
