Those Were the Days

Those Were the Days is Gene Raskin's adaptation of the Russian song Dorogoi dlinnoyu (Дорогой длинною; By the Long Road), composed by Boris Fomin (1900–1948) with Russian lyrics by the poet Konstantin Podrevskii. Raskin's contribution consisted of writing English lyrics and providing an English name for the song. Welsh singer Mary Hopkin's 1968 recording, produced by Paul McCartney, was a number-one hit on the UK Singles Chart. Those Were the Days has been covered by many artists in many languages.

Gene Raskin (1909 - 2004) was an American musician, playwright, and adjunct professor of architecture at Columbia University from 1936–1976.

Boris Fomin (1900–1948) was a Russian composer of folk music.
