The Cider House Rules: Theme Music

The theme music for the 1999 movie The Cider House Rules was composed by Rachel Portman. Her soundtrack for the movie was nominated for an Academy Award. The Cider House Rules is an American movie, based on John Irving's novel of the same name. The movie won two Academy Awards, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, and received four other nominations at the 1999 Academy Awards.

Rachel Portman (born in 1960) is an English composer, best known for her movie scores. She was the first female composer to win an Academy Award in the category of Best Musical or Comedy Score (for Emma in 1996). Portman was also nominated for Academy Awards for her scores for The Cider House Rules in 1999 and Chocolat in 2000. In 2010, she was given the Richard Kirk Award at the BMI Film & TV Awards for her contributions to movie and television music. Portman is the first woman to receive this award.
