The Stars and Stripes Forever

The Stars and Stripes Forever is a patriotic American march and the most famous work of composer John Philip Sousa, who also wrote the lyrics. Composed in 1897, the piece is often used on television, and in movies and musical performances. In accordance with a 1987 act of the United States Congress, The Stars and Stripes Forever is the official National March of the United States of America.

John Philip Sousa (1854 - 1932) was an American composer and conductor of the late Romantic era, known primarily for American military and patriotic marches. Because of his mastery of march composition, he is known as the "American March King". Among his best-known marches are The Stars and Stripes Forever (the National March of the United States of America), Semper Fidelis (the Official March of the United States Marine Corps), The Liberty Bell, The Thunderer, and The Washington Post.
