The Nearness of You

Written in 1938 by Hoagy Carmichael with lyrics by Ned Washington, The Nearness of You is a song first popularized by a 1938 recording with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and singer Ray Eberle. Other early versions were recorded by Kay Kyser's orchestra with singer Harry Babbitt, and by Paul Weston's orchestra with singer Dinah Shore. Subsequently, The Nearness of You has been covered by numerous artists.

Hoagy Carmichael (1899 – 1981) was an American composer, pianist, singer, actor, and bandleader. He is best known for writing Stardust, Georgia On My Mind, The Nearness of You, and Heart and Soul, four of the most-recorded American songs.
