The Greatest Love of All

The Greatest Love of All is a song written by Michael Masser and Linda Creed and originally recorded by George Benson for the 1977 movie The Greatest about Muhammad Ali. Creed wrote the lyrics in the midst of her struggle with breast cancer. In April 1986, when Creed died, Whitney Houston's version of the song was an international hit, topping the charts in Australia, Canada, and the United States, while reaching the top twenty in many countries, including Italy, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. That version is her third biggest United States hit, after I Will Always Love You and I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me).

Michael Masser (born in 1941) is a composer and producer of popular music. Among the many hits he wrote or co-wrote are Touch Me in the Morning, recorded by Diana Ross; and Greatest Love of All, Didn't We Almost Have It All, and Saving All My Love for You, all recorded by Whitney Houston. Among the recordings that he has produced are Barbra Streisand's Someone That I Used to Love (originally a hit for Natalie Cole), and the duet Home Again by Judy Collins and T. G. Sheppard. Masser was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2007.

Linda Creed (1948 - 1986), also known by her married-name Linda Epstein, was an American singer-songwriter and lyricist. In 1970, singer Dusty Springfield recorded her song Free Girl. Subsequently, Creed, working with songwriter-producer Thom Bell, wrote Stop Look Listen (To Your Heart), You Are Everything, Betcha by Golly, Wow, Break Up to Make Up, and You Make Me Feel Brand New, all for the Stylistics vocal-group; and Ghetto Child, I'm Coming Home, Living a Little and Laughing a Little, and The Rubberband Man, all for the Spinners vocal-group. Linda Creed was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992.
