The Doctor-Who Theme

The Doctor-Who Theme is a piece of music composed by Ron Grainer. In 1963, well before the availability of commercial synthesisers, the score was produced by Delia Derbyshire at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. It was one of the first electronic music signature-tunes for television, and after nearly five decades remains one of the most easily recognised. Although numerous arrangements of the theme have been used on television, the main melody has remained the same.

Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television program produced by the BBC. It first appeared on BBC television in 1963. Doctor Who is listed in Guinness World Records as the longest-running science-fiction television show, and as the "most successful" science-fiction series of all time, in terms of its overall broadcast ratings, DVD and book sales, iTunes traffic, and "illegal downloads".

Ron Grainer (1922 – 1981) was an Australian-born composer who worked for most of his professional career in the United Kingdom. He is remembered mostly for his film and television music.
