Tchaikovsky The Children's Album

Tchaikovsky's The Children's Album (Russian: Детский альбом), Op. 39, is a set of twenty-four short pieces for piano solo, intended for performance by children. Inspired by Robert Schumann's children's works such as Kinderszenen and Album fur die Jugend, Tchaikovsky, composed these piano works in 1878.

The first piece, Morning Prayer (Утренная молитва), is in G major and is marked "Andante".

The second piece, Winter Morning (Зимнее утро), is in B minor and is marked "

Allegro".

The sixth piece, The Sick Doll (Болезнь куклы), is in C minor and is marked "Lento".

The seventh piece, The Doll's Funeral (Похороны куклы), is in G minor and is a march marked "Grave".

The sixteenth piece, Old French Song (Старинная французская песенка) is in G minor and is marked "Molto moderato".

The eighteenth piece, Neapolitan Song (Неаполитанская песенка), is in E-flat major and is marked "Andante".

The nineteenth piece, The Nurse's Tale (Нянина сказка), is in C major and is marked "Moderato".

The twentieth piece, The Witch (Баба-Яга), is in E minor and is marked "Presto".

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840 - 1893) was a great Russian composer whose music is characterized by its magnificent melodies and sweeping orchestration. He wrote some of the most popular music in the classical repertoire, including the 1812 Overture, the first piano concerto, the violin concerto, the symphonies, the opera Eugene Onegin, and the ballets Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker.
