Stairway to Heaven

Written by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, Stairway to Heaven is a 1971 song popularized by the British rock-band Led Zeppelin. In the 1970s, it was the most requested song on FM radio-stations in the United States. In the year 2,000, the song ranked number three on the VH1 (an MTV cable-television station) list of the 100 Greatest Rock Songs. In 2004, it placed at number thirty-one on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

One of the originators of 'heavy metal' and 'hard rock', Led Zeppelin (1968 - 1980) was an English rock band. Its members were guitarist Jimmy Page, singer Robert Plant, drummer John Bonham, and bassist John Paul Jones. It was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, and won a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. In 2,000, it ranked number one on the VH1 list of the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.
