Some Enchanted Evening

Some Enchanted Evening is a song from the 1949 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific, which is based on James A. Michner's 1947 book Tales of the South Pacific. Perhaps the single biggest hit from any Rodgers and Hammerstein show, Some Enchanted Evening was sung by Metropolitan Opera bass Ezio Pinza in the original Broadway production, and he won the 1950 Tony Award for Best Actor for his performance in the musical.

The famous 1958 movie South Pacific is adapted from the musical. Some Enchanted Evening has been recorded by many artists, including Perry Come (number-one-hit in 1949), Barbra Streisand, Al Jolson, Bing Crosby, and Frank Sinatra. The song is number-28 on the American Film Institute's 2004 list "100 Years... 100 Songs".

Richard Rodgers (1902 - 1979) composed more than 900 songs as well as music for movies, television, and 43 Broadway musicals. He is best known for his songwriting partnerships with the lyricists Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein II. His compositions have had a significant impact on popular music.

Oscar Hammerstein II (1895 – 1960) was an American lyricist/writer and producer/director of musicals. Hammerstein wrote the lyrics for 850 songs, including Ol' Man River, Indian Love Call, People Will Say We're in Love, and Oklahoma. Five albums of Hammerstein musicals were included in the Recording Industry Association of America's "Songs of the Century" list (2001): The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, South Pacific, The King and I, and Show Boat.
