Schubert Marche Militaire

Schubert's Marche Militaire is the first of his three Marches Militaires (Op. 51, D. 733) written for piano four-hands. One of Schubert's most famous melodies, it has been arranged for full orchestra, military band, and various combinations of instruments. It has been used in works by other composers; for example, Igor Stravinsky's Circus Polka and Franz Liszt's Grand paraphrase de concert (S.426a). Carl Tausig's version for solo piano has been recorded by pianists such as Vladimir Horowitz, Evgeny Kissin, Josef Hofmann, Georges Cziffra, and Leopold Godowsky.

Franz Schubert (1797 - 1828) was an Austrian composer. He wrote over six hundred lieder (songs), nine symphonies (including the famous Unfinished Symphony), liturgical music, operas, some incidental music, numerous pieces of chamber music, and a large body of solo piano music.

Renowned for his magnificent melodies, he was perhaps even more proficient at creating music of extraordinary depth and emotional power. And despite his tragically short life, Franz Schubert is widely considered to be one of the greatest of all composers.
