Reynaldo Hahn: Works

Based on a poem by the French writer Paul Verlaine, L'heure exquise (The Exquisite Hour) is one of the best known songs of Reynaldo Hahn. It is the fifth song of his seven-song collection Chansons grises (Gray Songs) that he composed between 1887 and 1890.

Reynaldo Hahn (1874 - 1947) was a Venezuelan/French, composer, conductor, music critic, diarist, theatre director, and salon singer. He is best known as a composer of songs composed in the French classical "mélodie" tradition. In addition to songs, he wrote choral works, operas, ballet music, incidental music, movie scores, chamber music, and piano music. He was a friend of the French author Marcel Proust (1871 - 1922).
