Rachmaninoff's Vocalise

Published in 1912, Rachmaninoff's Vocalise, Op. 34, No. 14, is the last of his Fourteen Songs, Opus 34. Written for soprano or tenor with piano accompaniment, it contains no words, but is sung using any one vowel of the singer's choosing. As with many classical vocal pieces, it has been transposed into a variety of keys, allowing the performer to choose a vocal range suitable to her/his natural voice. Vocalise has been arranged for many different instrument combinations.

A Russian piano virtuoso, Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873 - 1943) was one of the last great composers of the Romantic era of music. His compositions are renowned for their lyricism, expressive breadth, structural ingenuity, and a tonal palette of rich distinctive colors.
