Rachmaninoff: Morceaux de fantaisie

Sergei Rachmaninoff's Morceaux de fantaisie (Short Musical Fantasies), Opus 3, is a set of five pieces for piano solo composed in 1892. The use of the word 'fantasie" provides a hint as to the imagery of the pieces, but not to their musical form.

The first piece is Élégie in E-Flat Minor, a somber and beautiful work.

The second piece is the famous Prelude in C-Sharp Minor.

The last three pieces are Melody in E-Major, Polichinelle in F-Sharp Minor, and Serenade in B-Flat Minor.

A Russian piano virtuoso, Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873 - 1943) was one of the last great composers of the Romantic era of music. His compositions are renowned for their lyricism, expressive breadth, structural ingenuity, and a tonal palette of rich distinctive colors.
