Puccini's Nessun Dorma

One of the most famous tenor arias in all opera, Nessun Dorma (None Shall Sleep) is an aria from the final act of Giacomo Puccini's 1926 opera Turandot. It is sung by Calaf, il principe ignoto (the unknown prince), who falls in love at first sight with the beautiful but cold Princess Turandot. Calaf's dilemma is that any man who wishes to wed Turandot must first solve her three riddles, and if he fails, he will be beheaded.

Giacomo Puccini (1858 - 1924) was an Italian composer whose operas, including La Bohème, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, and Turandot, are among the most frequently performed. Some of his arias, such as Nessun Dorma, have become part of popular culture.
