Polish National Anthem
The song Poland Is Not Yet Lost (Polish: Jeszcze Polska Nie Zginęła) was officially adopted as the national anthem of the Republic of Poland in 1926. The composer of the piece is unknown. Its lyrics were written by Józef Wybicki in 1797, two years after the collapse of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
The melody, a lively and rhythmical mazurka, is most probably Wybicki's adaptation of a folk tune that was popular during the second half of the 18th century. (The mazurka is a musical form popularized by Chopin, and derived from the folk dances of Masovia, a region in central Poland.)
