"Only You" was composed by Buck Ram and Ande Rand. Many recordings by various artists became hits, but the most successful recording is by The Platters in 1955. It held #1 position on the U.S. R & B charts for seven weeks, and reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In 1973, singer Stein Ingebrigtsen recorded hit versions in Norwegian ("Bare du"), Swedish ("Bara du"), and German ("So wie du").

In 1974, the Ringo Starr cover became a #1 hit on the US Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart, then #6 hit on the US pop chart.

The song made numerous appearances in films and television worldwide.
