Variations on Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Mozart composed this piece, K. 265/300e, around 1781. It begins with a theme based on the French folk song "Ah! vous dirai-je, Maman" (Oh! I tell you, Mom). The work was first published in Vienna in 1785.

The French melody first appeared in 1761, and has been used for many children's songs, such as "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep" and the "Alphabet Song".
