Midnight Cowboy: Theme Music

A popular instrumental work, Midnight Cowboy: Theme Music was composed by John Barry. The movie Midnight Cowboy is a 1969 American movie based on the 1965 novel with the same name by James Leo Herlihy. The movie stars Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman. It won three Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay; and it is the only X-rated film ever to win Best Picture.

John Barry (1933 - 2011) was an English composer and conductor of movie music. He composed the soundtracks for eleven of the James Bond movies between 1963 and 1987, and also arranged and performed the James Bond Theme Music. He wrote the scores to the award winning movies Midnight Cowboy, Dances with Wolves, and Out of Africa. In 1999, Barry was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) at Buckingham Palace for services to music, and he received the BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award in 2005. John Barry was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1998.
