Let It Be Me

Let It Be Me is a popular song originally published in 1955 and called Je t'appartiens. The score was written and first recorded by Gilbert Bécaud, with French lyrics by Pierre Delanoë. The English version, with lyrics by Mann Curtis, was performed in 1957 by Jill Corey in the television series Climax!. Corey's version was released as a single and was moderately successful. The most popular version of Let It Be Me was released in 1960 by The Everly Brothers. The song has been covered by numerous other artists, including Bob Dylan, Nina Simone, Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, and James Brown.

Gilbert Bécaud (1927 - 2001) was a French singer, composer, pianist, and actor. Before his breakthrough as a singer in 1953, he composed film scores and several songs for Marlene Dietrich and Édith Piaf. His 1961 song Et maintenant became one of the most successful singles in French music history, and the popular English version What Now My Love? was covered by Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra, Sonny & Cher, Judy Garland, Elvis Presley, and Andy Williams. With Neil Diamond, Gilbert Bécaud wrote September Morn and Love on the Rocks, the latter of which was featured on the soundtrack of 1980 movie The Jazz Singer and was an international hit.
