Kuhlau Sonatinas

Friedrich Kuhlau (1786 - 1832) was a German-Danish composer, piano teacher, and a central figure in the musical aspect of the Danish Golden Age (roughly the first half of the 19th century). His extensive body of works includes five operas, incidental music, piano concertos, chamber music, solo piano pieces, and a large volume of flute music. He wrote the overture and incidental music for the famous Danish play Elverhøj (Elves' Hill) by Johan Ludvig Heiberg. An acquaintance of Beethoven, Kuhlau introduced many of Beethoven's works to Danish audiences.

His delightful sonatinas for solo piano are quite popular and often used as pedagogical pieces. Composed and published in 1827, his four Opus 88 sonatinas are written in the keys of C major, G major, A minor, F major.
