Tom Waits Compositions

Kentucky Avenue is a song written and performed by Tom Waits, and released on his 1978 album Blue Valentine. The song was also included on his 1986 compilation album Asylum Years. Mojo magazine includes Waits' performance of the song on its list MOJO: 100 GREAT VOICES.

Putnam County is a song from Tom Waits' 1975 album Nighthawks at the Diner. The song is essentially a poetry recitation with jazz backing. The album peaked at 164 on the Billboard 200, is certified Silver by the British Recorded Music Industry association, and is included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

Tom Waits (born in 1949) is an American singer-songwriter, composer, and actor. He has worked as a composer for movies and musical plays. His songs are best-known through cover versions by other artists: Jersey Girl, performed by Bruce Springsteen; Ol' '55, performed by the Eagles; and Downtown Train, performed by Rod Stewart. Waits' albums have occasionally achieved gold-album sales status outside the United States. He has been nominated for a number of major music awards and has won Grammy Awards for his albums Bone Machine and Mule Variations. In 2011, Tom Waits was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
