Karl Jenkins: Works

Karl Jenkins (born in 1944) is a Welsh musician and composer. Among his many works, Adiemus, The Armed Man, and Requiem are probably the most famous. Jenkins was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2005, and a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2010. In 2015 he was made a Knight Bachelor in the British honours system.

Adiemus is a new age song originally released on the album Adiemus: Songs of Sanctuary in 1995. The song was used prior to the album's release in a 1994 Delta Air Lines television commercial.

The Armed Man is a Mass subtitled "A Mass for Peace". The work was commissioned by the Royal Armouries Museum and was dedicated to victims of the Kosovo crisis.

Requiem is a 2005 classical work in which Japanese haiku-poetry is combined with traditional elements of a Requiem Mass. At times, the Latin text is sung below the text of the haiku. Included in the orchestra are oriental instruments such as the shakuhachi, the darabuca, daiko, and frame drums.

Palladio is a composition for string orchestra composed by Karl Jenkins in 1995. The title refers to the great Italian architect Andrea Palladio (1508–1580). The work in three movements is in the form of a concerto grosso. The music, especially the first movement, has been arranged for different ensembles, including wind quintet and wind band. Jenkins made a version for piano and used the motifs of the first movement for the aria Exultate jubilate, related to his 70th birthday. Motifs of the first movement were also used for a 1993 De Beers (diamond mining and trading company) television commercial.
