In the Still of the Night

“In the Still of the Night” was introduced by Nelson Eddy in Porter’s Rosalie. Eddy found the song difficult to sing and had asked Cole to create another one for him. However, producer L.B. Mayer liked the song. It stayed and reached #10 on Your Hit Parade. The song charted twice in 1937, and with Dion and the Belmonts in 1960. Other notable recordings include those by Charlie Parker (1952), Della Reese, Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Eckstine, Sammy Davis, Jr., Frank Sinatra (1961 and 1995), Eartha Kitt, and Carly Simon (2005).
