Hunchback of Notre Dame OST

The Hunchback of Notre Dame: An Original Walt Disney Records Soundtrack is the soundtrack to the 1996 Disney animated feature movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The story is based on the famous French novel of the same name by Victor Hugo, and is considered to be one of Disney's darkest animated movies. The music was composed by Alan Menken, and the lyrics were written by Stephen Schwartz.

The song The Bells of Notre Dame is sung at the beginning and end of the movie. It is reminiscent of the poem The Bells by Edgar Allan Poe, especially the repetition of the word "bells" during the crescendo.

Alan Menken (born in 1949) is an American movie-score and musical-theater composer. Menken is best known for his scores for movies produced by Walt Disney Records. His scores for four Disney movies have each won him two Academy Awards: The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), and Pocahontas (1995). He also composed the scores for Little Shop of Horrors (1986), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), Enchanted (2007), and Sausage Party (2016), among others. He is also known for his work on musical theater works for Broadway and elsewhere. With eight Academy Award wins (four each for Best Score and Best Song), Menken is the second most prolific Oscar winner in the music categories after Alfred Newman, who has nine Oscars. He has also won eleven Grammy Awards, a Tony Award and other honors.

Stephen Schwartz (born in 1948) is an American musical-theater lyricist and composer. In a career spanning over four decades, Schwartz has written (music and lyrics) such hit musicals as Godspell (1971), Pippin (1972) and Wicked (2003). He has contributed lyrics for a number of successful movies, including Pocahontas (1995), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), The Prince of Egypt (1998, music and lyrics) and Enchanted (2007). Schwartz has won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Lyrics, three Grammy Awards, three Academy Awards, and has been nominated for six Tony Awards.
