Hijo de la Luna

Written by José María Cano, Hijo de la Luna (Spanish: Moon's Child) is a song performed originally by the Spanish band Mecano with lead singer Ana Torroja. The song was included in their 1986 album Entre el cielo y el suelo. Both the single and the album were very successful in the Spanish-speaking countries. In December of 1998 and January of 1999, a cover version of Hijo de la Luna by the Dutch singer Loona reached number-one on the German charts and number-two in the Swiss singles-chart.

José María Cano (born in 1959) is a Spanish singer/songwriter and a former member of the Spanish pop-group Mecano. He composed several songs well-known in the Spanish-speaking world; among those songs are Hijo de la luna, Lia, Mujer contra mujer, Me cuesta tanto olvidarte, Aire, and Tiempo de vals. His opera Luna was recorded with Plácido Domingo in the leading role.

More recently José María Cano has become a successful painter. He began to work professionally in 2002, and has had exhibitions in the United States, China, Spain, Mexico, Belgium, The Czech Republic, England, and Germany.
