Harbor Lights

"Harbor Lights" was written in 1937 by the British songwriting team Hugh Williams (music) Jimmy Kennedy (lyrics). First sung in the U.S. by Rudy Vallee, it became one of the most popular tunes in 1937. It was the theme music for the move The Long Voyage Home. The song conveyed the hopes and fears, the loneliness and courage of the men as as their battleship glided out to sea. It was also recorded in Polish by Irena Santor as "Portowe Swiatla". The song has been recorded by many artists; charting versions were recorded by Sammy Kaye, Guy Lombardo, Bing Crosby, Ray Anthony, Ralph Flanagan, Elvis Presley, The Platters (peaking at #8 on the Billboard charts in 1960), and Ken Griffin. The biggest-selling version was by the Sammy Kaye orchestra.
