Fly Me to the Moon

(In Other Words)

Composed by Bart Howard and originally called In Other Words, Fly Me to the Moon was first sung in 1954 by Felicia Sanders at the Blue Angel club in Manhattan. The song received wide exposure when Peggy Lee sang it on The Ed Sullivan Show (television) several years later. Accompanied by Count Basie, Frank Sinatra recorded the song on his 1964 album It Might as Well Be Swing. The arrangement by Quincy Jones has become the most well-known rendition. Fly Me to the Moon has often been used in movies and television, and has been covered by many other artists, including Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, and Della Reese.

Bart Howard (1915 - 2004) was a composer best-known for his song Fly Me to the Moon. He began his career as an accompanist, and played for Mabel Mercer, Johnny Mathis and Eartha Kitt, among others.
