Fade To Black

Fade to Black is a song by the American band Metallica, written in 1984 by the band's members (at that time): James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Cliff Burton, and Kirk Hammett. It was released as the first promotional single from Metallica's album Ride the Lightning. The song reached number-100 on the Swiss Singles Chart in 1984, and readers of Guitar World magazine ranked the song's guitar solo as the twenty-fourth best ever. Several artists have covered Fade to Black.

Formed in 1981 by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, Metallica is an American heavy-metal band widely considered one of the founding-four bands of thrash-metal music. Metallica has won nine Grammy Awards, and has released nine studio albums, three live albums, and 24 singles. In 2009, Hetfield was ranked number-eight in British-author Joel McIver's book The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists; and Hetfield was ranked twenty-fourth on Hit Parader magazine's list of The 100 Greatest Metal Vocalists of All Time.
