Ellmenreich's Spinning Song

Spinning Song (Spinnliedchen), No.5 in his Musikalische Genrebilder, Op.14, is a delightful piece that has long been a favorite with piano students. (It is interesting to note that Felix Mendelssohn also wrote a Spinning Song, which is part of his Song Without Words.)

Albert Ellmenreich (1816 to 1905) spent over fifty years in the German theater as an actor, writer, director, and producer. He also composed music, including several short pieces like The Spinning Song. It is believed that Ellmenreich also composed the music for the three-act comic opera Der Schmied von Greina-Green (1856), which he produced.
