Debussy's Rêverie

Composed for solo piano by Claude Debussy between 1880 and 1884, Rêverie is the earliest known of his many "impressionistic" pieces. Despite Debussy's statement that "I consider it absolutely no good", the piece has long been a popular concert favorite.

Rêverie has been rearranged numerous times for a wide variety of instruments, and the version for harp is particularly popular. The piece has been admired by jazz musicians, and bandleader Larry Clinton's version, entitled My Reverie, was a hit song in 1938.

With a musical style in which impression matters more than direction, the revolutionary French composer Claude Debussy (1862 - 1918) produced a body of magnificent music, strikingly different from that of previous composers and having profound influence on subsequent composers.
