(They Long to Be) Close to You is a popular song written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. It was first recorded by Richard Chamberlain and released in 1963 . The tune was also recorded by Dionne Warwick in the 1960s, and numerous recordings have been made by many other artists.

The most well known version is the Carpenters' recording, released by Karen and Richard Carpenter on their album Close to You in 1970. It was number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks, and it earned them a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Performance by a Duo, Group or Chorus in 1971. This song is Homer and Marge's love song on "The Simpsons" television show.
