Chopin Funeral March

Structured as a funeral march with a Lento interlude, this famous piece is the third movement of Chopin's Piano Sonata Number 2, in B-flat minor, Opus 35.

The Funeral March has become well known in popular culture,and was performed at the funerals of John Kennedy and Soviet leaders, including Leonid Brezhnev. It was transcribed for full orchestra by the English composer Edward Elgar in 1933.

Frédéric Chopin (1810 - 1849), who wrote mostly for solo piano, is generally considered to be one of the great masters of Romantic music. His work, often sounding like spontaneous improvisation, is characterized by beautiful rhythmic melodies expressive of heart-felt emotion.
