Chopin Fantasy Op.49
Frédéric Chopin's Fantaisie in F minor, Opus 49, is a single-movement work for piano, composed in 1841, when he was 31 years old. From Chopin's letters it is known that he used the name "fantasy" to indicate a composition free in form and inspiration. The F minor Fantasy is one of Chopin's greatest and longest works (11-14 minutes long). Only his Polonaise-Fantaisie, sonatas, and piano concertos are longer.
According to musicologist Artur Bieleki:
"The F minor Fantasy is an expansively constructed work belonging to the sphere of such epic-dramatic genres in the Chopin oeuvre as the ballades and the scherzos. Yet it occupies a distinctive, exceptional place among them."
Frédéric Chopin (1810 - 1849), who wrote mostly for solo piano, is generally considered to be one of the great masters of Romantic music. His work, often sounding like spontaneous improvisation, is characterized by beautiful rhythmic melodies expressive of heart-felt emotion.
