Chariots of Fire

Chariots of Fire is an instrumental musical-theme written and recorded by Vangelis for the 1981 movie of the same name. The recording has been used in various television programs and sporting events, and the piece has been covered by numerous artists, including John Williams with the Boston Pops, Zamfir, and Richard Clayderman. A vocal version, with lyrics by Jon Anderson, has been recorded by Melissa Manchester and others.

The movie Chariots of Fire is a British film based on the true story of two athletes in the 1924 Olympics. Written by Colin Welland and directed by Hugh Hudson, the movie won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Vangelis (born in 1943) is a Greek composer of electronic, progressive, ambient, jazz, pop-rock, and orchestral music. He is best known for his Academy Award winning score for the movie Chariots of Fire, and scores for the movies Blade Runner, 1492: Conquest of Paradise, and Alexander.
