Cavatina is a piece composed in 1970 by Stanley Myers, originally for piano, with later versions for guitar. A guitar version was used in the 1970 movie The Walking Stick. In 1973, singer Cleo Laine wrote lyrics for the piece, and with guitarist John Williams recorded the song, which is called He Was Beautiful. Another guitar version of Cavatina, played by John Williams, was used as the theme for the 1978 award-winning movie The Deer Hunter, and Williams' recording was a UK Top 20 hit. Cavatina has been covered by several artists.

Stanley Myers (1930 - 1993), was a prolific British composer who wrote over sixty movie-soundtracks. He is best known for Cavatina, for which he was given the Ivor Novello Award by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors.
