Les Misérables
Castle on a Cloud is a song from the musical Les Misérables, which is based on Victor Hugo's novel with the same name. The song is a solo for the part of young Cosette. She sings about a castle where she does not have to sweep floors and where a lady in white looks after her.
Do You Hear the People Sing? (also known as The People's Song) is one of the most famous songs from Les Misérables. The song is sung near the end of the first act, and then again at the end of the finale. Instrumentally, the theme is also prominent in the battle scenes.
French composer Claude-Michel Schönberg composed the Tony Award-winning score for Les Misérables in 1980, with a libretto by Alain Boublil. This musical was staged in London's West End in 1985, with English lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer. There have been several recordings, including one by the original London cast and one by the original Broadway cast.
