The Carpenters: You

You is a song written by Randy Edelmen and included in The Carpenters' 1976 album A Kind of Hush. The album includes the song There's a Kind of Hush and received gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.

Randy Edelman (born in 1947) is an American movie/television-score composer. He produced songs recorded by artists such as The Carpenters (I Can't Make Music, Piano Picker, and You), Barry Manilow (Weekend in New England), Olivia Newton-John (If Love Is Real), and Dionne Warwick (The Laughter and the Tears, Blood Sweat and Tears, and Blue Street). He has worked in movie/television scoring and his solo albums were popular in the United Kingdom, Europe, and Japan.

The Carpenters was an American vocal/instrumental duo, consisting of sister Karen (born in 1950) and brother Richard Carpenter (born in 1946). The Carpenters were the best selling American music act of the 1970s. During their fourteen-year career, they recorded eleven albums, five of which contained top-ten singles; thirty-one singles; and five television specials. Nominated numerous times for Grammy Awards, The Carpenters won three of them: Best New Artist (1970); Best Contemporary Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group, or Chorus (1970); and Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group (1971). Karen died in 1983 from complications of the eating-disorder anorexia nervosa.
